About The Event

Join us for a memorable day in historic Richmond!

  • We have an exciting line-up for the Capital City kicking off the day at the 1814 Robert Mills designed Monumental Church. The church stands as a monument to the 72 Richmonders who lost their lives in the Richmond Theater fire of 1811. Monumental Church is the only surviving example of the five domed churches that Mills designed.
  • Learn more about Richmond with stops at the John Marshall House and St. John’s Church in Church Hill where we will be joined by Dr. Ryan Smith professor of history at VCU specializing in American religious history, material culture, and historic preservation.
  • A stop in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom includes a visit to Masons’ Hall built in 1785-1787. As the oldest 18th century frame building with a large public space in Virginia Masons’ Hall plays a role in every major historic event in colonial and civil war Virginia.
  • What better way to cap off our Day! We’ll depart from the Canal’s Turning Basin and travel along downtown Richmond's historic Canal Walk on a riverfront canal cruise along the James River and Kanawha Canal. View Richmond’s history from this unique vantage point that helped to shape the past, present and future of Virginia’s capital.
  • Enjoy lunch at The Historic John Marshall from Homemades by Suzanne, a Richmond institution. Choose from chicken salad on a white roll, roast beef and cheddar on a white roll, veggie wrap or quiche of the day (this selection is a $2 upcharge). Lunch includes a side, drink, and dessert.

Whether you were raised in Richmond, visited often or just moved to the area, everyone will enjoy hearing the rich history of Richmond filled with great stories, history, and legends.
