About The Event

Join us for this one-of-a-kind, day-long excursion through Historic Olde Towne Portsmouth with John and Blondine Braidfoote. You’ll be educated and entertained by four centuries of history told in story and song against a backdrop of the largest collection of standing period architecture between Alexandria and Charleston! This seven-hour excursion includes TWO walking tours punctuated by SIX interior tours along the way, and TWO refreshment breaks that include pastries and coffee/tea followed by a late lunch. You'll enjoy a tour of the Historic Hill House Museum and six historic houses of worship, Court Street Baptist, Trinity Episcopal, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Chevra T’helim Synagogue, St. John’s Episcopal Church, and Emanuel. The best part? Weather permitting, you don’t get back on the bus until you leave Portsmouth!  Come share in the discovery, laughter, and camaraderie that make our TVHS bus trips such a memorable experience - a perfect blend of history, hospitality, and fun! Watch for full details that will be shared shortly.

Walking & Terrain Information

Bathroom breaks will be available throughout the tour. Seating is provided inside the churches, and benches are located along portions of the walking route for guests who may need them. Sidewalks in Olde Towne are brick; however, the area is very quiet, and walking in the street to avoid uneven surfaces is an option. Please note that the Hill House Museum includes a flight of stairs. Guests who prefer not to use the stairs may remain on the first floor and in the garden, where they will be engaged by one of the guides.
